Cover Quilt Variation

Many of you have written and asked how to make the quilt that is on the cover of my book. It is a variation of the project quilt Rainbow from the book. If you wish to make this quilt, follow the directions for the Rainbow quilt beginning on page 25 through step 4, then follow the directions below to complete your quilt.

The two quilts are made from the same continuous-strips.

To make the cover quilt, see illustrations below and mark the strips in step 5 with the red dots on the smaller angle of the black diamonds (opposite corners where you marked for the Rainbow project).

In the Rainbow project quilt, in Step 5 the red dots are marked on the larger angle of the black diamonds.

When you get to steps six and seven, you will need to rotate the right strip up matching dots as shown to form the pattern in the cover quilt (you rotated the strips down to make the Rainbow project quilt). Sew all of your pairs of strips together following these instructions. Then sew all of your pairs of pairs together, etc., until all of your strips (24 in all. The cover quilt also has 4 more continuous strips) are sewn together to make the pattern on the cover quilt. Follow steps 8, 9,10 and 11 for cutting the final tube apart and to complete your quilt.
